Class Descriptions

Level I
This is Beginning Yoga; our most popular class, also serving as an excellent practice class for more advanced students.  Focus is on basic yoga postures, alignment and breath work.  You can stay in a Level I class your whole life if you want to!  Perfect for those nursing an injury, or for those curious at heart.

Level I/II
Students will cultivate precision in all basic yoga poses, improve breath work, and deepen their knowledge of various branches of yoga. Advanced postures are introduced, including inversions and a number of balance poses. Level II students should have experienced a Level I class before attempting this one.

Open Mixed Level Yoga - FREE!!
Join Kirsten for this FREE offering of the practice!  Class will be tailored to those that arrive.  Expect use of props, longer holds and perhaps some fluid movement.  Leave feeling refreshed in body and mind, knowing you still have cash for groceries afterwards!  Donations accepted, but not necessary.

Level II - Yoga Flow
Take in a stronger class, guided by Wendy Fanson.  Feel the power of stronger postures, fluid flow and longer holds.  Break a sweat with this challenging, but soft-hearted class.  Yoga experience is recommended but not necessary.

Gentle/Restorative/Yin
This class is open to all levels.  We will stretch our bodies in a passive way using props as well as our own body weight paired with the position that we will be in.  Expect NO sun salutations in this class!  Our practice will be more earthy, as in low to the ground.  Most postures will be done seated, supine, or with the help of several props.  Come in stressed from the week and leave refreshed for the weekend.

Yoga For Men

This class is for men new to yoga or for men with an ongoing yoga practice. It is specifically designed to address men's challenges and goals in yoga. Whether your goal is to become stronger, increase your energy, be more flexible, improve your health or explore deeper issues in your life, this class will assist you in your journey.

Sivananda Yoga
Is a traditional, introspective style of yoga.  Sivananda follows a specific format which promotes proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality while calming the mind.  Classes include breathing exercises, warm-ups, 12 fundamental poses and relaxation.  Poses are practiced slowly and consciously, allowing for a full exploration of each pose.  Variations or additional poses may also be taught, depending on a student's skill level.  Appropriate for all levels.

Yoga Stretch and Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga and Yoga Stretch both work areas deep within the body, beneath teh superficial muscles to stretch connective tissues such as ligaments and joints.  Yin Poses may be held from one to five minutes, or even longer!  Yoga Stretch is a great practice on its own, or a perfect balance to a more active, yang-style of yoga practice.  Ideal for all levels of experience.  Do your body a favor, drop-in on this class!  Sunday's class is true Paul Grilley-style Yin with no Yang!

Yin Yang Yoga
This class will consist of both the male and female sides of our yoga practice.  Half of the class will be Yin in nature and other other half will be Yang.  Yin is the feminine, slower, softer side of our practice.  Yang is the masculine, more active, and warmer side of our practice.  Something for everyone in this class.

Therapy of Yoga
Learn how yoga can support you as a therapy to affect change to aches and pains.  The subject matter will change every month and can involve everything from headaches, artiritis, healthy muscles, joint pain to mood swings.  This is for all levels of yoga students.  From the new person who experiences aches and pains to the experienced practitioners who wish to learn more about adjustments and sequencing.

Tai Chi
"Quigong" is the style that Elizabeth Anderson will be offering.  "Qi" or "chi" means life energy and "Gong" means daily effort.  Tai Chi is a daily practice that you will be able to do on your own.  Everyone is born with chi, we just need to learn to use it.  Tai Chi can help with many activities including dancing, swimming, weight training, martial arts and self-healing.  Your balance will become bettr as well as your memory and breathing.  You will experience a state of relaxation and better concentration as you focus on your breath and movements.  You can lower your blood pressure through the practice of Tai Chi as well.  Everything slows down as we practice.  It's a nice change from the fast pace of life that most of us lead.

Buddhist Group Meditation
We will sit in meditation for thirty minutes followed by fifteen minutes of walking meditation.  The group usually sits for 15 minutes once again, after walking meditation.  Instructions are given prior to sitting meditation and walking meditation.  Holly then gives a presentation of the Buddha's teaching, followed by questions and comments from the group.  We conclude the program by 10:30 am.  For more information check out the Buddhist Group web site.  This class is FREE.  Donations gladly accepted for group expenses.
